Getting Signed into A Strong Record Label

Record labels serve as plains of steady fittings for artist.
The label you belong to determines how far you go in career terms.

It is the dream of every artist to get signed into a good label because of the immense benefits which accompany such signings  but as difficult as it is for a camel to go through the eye of a needle so it is for upcoming artists to get signed into very good labels.

In view of the difficulty upcoming artists face in their bid to signed by labels, BoomNG has compiled steps to to getting signed as well as basic requirements artists must meet up to.

Starting first with requirements:-

1. Talent is Of The Essence.

Marvins Records or Roc Nation can never be interested in signing an untalented chap.
You've got to be talented, capable of creating dope tunes and bringing in money.
Talent is truly of the essence. As an upcoming artist as a venture bound to be a waste even before signing you.

2. Master The Art of Music
Strong labels are not looking for people they would build, they are in search of masters of the art of music. They are not looking for learners but professionals.

Master the art, understand every bit of rudiment and principle of music.

3. Create Good Demos/Tracks

To do this effectively you would need to work with a good producer.
I believe that for every genre of music there is a producer who can deliver better than others.

A good producer should be capable of producing any time of music but there is bound to be an area of specialization. A producer would always be good in one of two genre of music, very good.

So, as an artist locate the producer who understands your type of music and is able to produce good demos and tracks.

For instance,
Young John would not do well producing for Rick Ross or Jesse Jagz.
Tspize would not do well producing for Ice Prince Zarmani.
If Juls produces for Phyno it might be a disaster.

Get a good producer and create good demos.

4. Get a Good Manager

Your manager would serve as an advocate, a link between you and the world.

A manager with affluence and influence would do wonders for you.

Now to steps....

1. Follow top labels

If you really want to get signed you'd have to follow these top labels, try as much as possible to know their inside out, know their artists and projects they are embarking on e.t.c

Following these labels has been made easy with the advent of social media platforms such as Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, Viber and Twitter.
Make full use of these platforms and you'd be up to date on the movement of these labels.

At some point, Top labels give out open slots for upcoming artists to submit their demos, following them would keep you posted and serve as an advantage when such opportunity knocks.

2. Voice Out

Here again social media does the whole magic.
Following these labels would make little or no significant impact.

Voice out, tweet to them, tweet about them, record karaoke of yourself doing one of their songs e.t.c anything to make them notice you.

Don't keep silent. Do whatever you might to get their attention.
Acts like Mayorkun, Dremo, Temmie Ovwasa all did same.

3. Be Ready

Finally always be ready. Be ready to submit your songs, demos to labels. You can't tell when you'd be called upon.

Be of very good conduct on social media, you never can tell who is watching.
Try not to speak too much about your private life, be discreet.

Meet the requirements and follow these steps, you'd be lucky and get signed.
