Music most definitely is the next big thing when it comes to earning cool cash in the world today.
So many have ventured into music with hopes and aspirations but today only a few can be considered successful.
Upcoming artists are every where. I was speaking with a 12 year old boy and he was telling me he plans on going to record and I was like "at 12".
Joining the trend isn't a big deal, the main thing is making it. Upcoming artists today have failed in their bid to making it.
BoomNG has carefully pointed out and outlined little foxes and flaws upcoming artists commit and overlook but in the real sense can hamper on their career growth.
1. No Improvements
As people get tired of eating one class of food everyday so it is with music. Variety truly is the spice of life. When there is nothing new in your songs, when you are still the same amateur they used to know, when there are no noticeable changes as regards improvement in your music people definitely would lose interest in you
2. Whack Lyrical Content
I keep telling upcoming artists this "You are not permitted to sing rubbish, until you are a celeb."
The vulgarity rate of songs by upcoming artists is alarming. One might wonder, if these set of artists finally make it what would the entertainment industry look like, I say it'd look like a dark gloomy cloud filled with noise.
In case you never knew, NCC bans songs which are considered vulgar and immoral for the consumption of the society. Such songs are never aired on Radio and TV stations broadcasting in Nigeria.
Phyno, Wizkid, Iyanya, Flavour, Olamide, Reminiscene have all fallen victim of such bans.
So imagine a country that bans it's superstars. As an upcoming artist you want even leave the border of the area you stay in. Sing sense, Stop Vulgarity.
3. Extravagant Social Media Lifestyle.
Upcoming artists fail to be discreet in their use of social media platforms such as Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Whatsapp and most especially Facebook.
You don't just post whatever you like and think everyone see things the way you do.
Let me share a story maybe you'd learn from it.
"A young player was signed to Spanish league giants "Barcelona", few hours after his unveiling and all the ceremonies, a barca loyalist dig up the newly signed player's history and records and on Twitter he found a tweet by the newly signed ayer which speaks of homosexuals.
He showed it to everyone by retweeting it on the clubs official twitter handle, Fans saw it, got angry and demanded the player mustn't stay at Camp Nou.
As expected Barcelona heeded to the fans request and immediately unsigned the player. He was signed and unsigned the same day, because of a tweet two years back."
Some months ago I saw a post on Facebook by an upcoming artist asking for a babymama, an artist that is just 17. What does such speak of an artist like that.
If you are in the habit of saying thrash on social media, desist from such, quickly delete the posts. They could be hindrances in future.
4. Outright Criticism
When I see upcoming artists criticizing other upcoming artists I marvel. It saddens me greatly when the one been criticized is doing better than the one criticizing.
Whether you are doing better than the other, do not criticize your fellow upcoming artist, it is totally uncalled for.
I am of the opinion that bloggers should be the one criticizing and not artists.
One incident that happened recently got me flabbergasted, an upcoming artist, who I doubt is known in the area where he lives, was criticizing Chinko Ekun, where does that happen?.
Quit criticism. Even when it is going to be constructive do it privately and not publicly. Respect the fact that the person you are criticizing is also running the same race with you even though you not on the same lane.
